I am an avid tester of all my salespages and was wondering recently if testimonials on your salespage really does increase conversion. You would think that this is an obvious YES, which is why I had never tested it before. However, have you ever been on a salespage and thought to yourself, These testimonials sound bogus!

I have, so I thought that maybe testimonials were not as powerful as everyone thinks and maybe they turn some people away.

So, I recently tested one of my salespages and did a split test of the salesletter with the testimonials and without. After about 3,000 visitors…the results are in…drum roll please…

The salesletter with the testimonials performed 22% better than the salesletter without. I really expected a bigger boost but I guess, at least for me, testimonials do in fact increase conversion.

I should also point out that all my testimonials include the person’s first name and first letter of their last name and their city and state. I found that including this information helps people to trust that they are in fact real.
